The Indian Railways Institute of Transport Management (IRITM), Lucknow, and the
Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (IIM Lucknow) today signed a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing the quality of training, academic interaction,
research collaboration between the two premier institutions and capacity building in context
of Vikshit Bharat vision. The MoU was signed by Shri Ranjan Prakash Thakur, Director General,
IRITM, and Prof. M.P. Gupta, Director, IIM Lucknow, at a ceremony held in the Abhivyakti
Auditorium at IRITM.
The signing ceremony was attended by faculty members of IRITM and IIM Lucknow,
apart from probationary officers of the Indian Railway Management Service (Traffic).
The MoU establishes a framework for cooperation in areas including participation of
selected in-service Indian Railways officers in customized management programmes,
opportunities for doctoral studies, research consultancy, and short-, medium-, and long-term
Management Development Programmes. The agreement also provides for collaborative
projects of mutual benefit, sharing of knowledge resources, and future cooperation through a
Centre of Excellence and other academic initiatives.
Shri Ranjan Prakash Thakur described the MoU as a significant step towards enhancing
the managerial and leadership capabilities of railway officers. He expressed confidence that
the collaboration would create valuable learning opportunities and help develop future-ready
leaders for the transport and logistics sector.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. M.P. Gupta, Director, IIM Lucknow highlighted the
importance of collaboration between leading academic institutions and public organizations
for fostering leadership and innovation. Addressing the IRMS probationary officers, he
encouraged them to embrace continuous learning, strategic thinking, and professional
excellence in their careers.
The MoU will remain effective for an initial period of five years and is expected to
facilitate a broad range of academic, training, and research initiatives that will benefit both
institutions and contribute to capacity building within Indian Railways.
